James Rawes is a violin maker and restorer in the Carlisle area who supplies a complete range of violins, violas and cellos, and string accessories.  He can supply instruments from modest violin outfits for young players, to antique and refurbished instruments and indeed you may even consider an individually commissioned instrument.

Omega Music

When the Solway Sinfonia needs a piano for a concert, we hire from Omega Music.  For many years, Omega Music has boasted an extensive piano department, offering both new and reconditioned instruments, piano restoration and hire services.  Their piano hire fleet is regularly used by the Northern Sinfonia, as well as opera groups, music festivals and entertainment venues across the North of England.

British Double Reed Society

The British Double Reed Society is a non-profit-making organisation established to further the interests of all involved with the oboe and bassoon.  The BDRS acts as a national forum for debate and the exchange of ideas, information and advice on all aspects of double reed instruments.  It also fulfils an important role in encouraging greater interest in the instruments, and securing their place in the wider cultural and educational environment.

British Horn Society

The British Horn Society is the UK organisation dedicated to the art, craft and fun of French horn playing.  The Society, which is run by horn players, publishes a special magazine, The Horn Player, organises festivals and other special horn playing and study events featuring the best international soloists, and arranges concessions for members from leading orchestras and retailers.

Galloway String Quartet

This is a chamber group based in Dumfries & Galloway who offer their services for weddings, parties and functions.

Making Music

Making Music represents and supports amateur and semi-professional music groups of all genres throughout the United Kingdom.  They provide a comprehensive range of artistic and administrative services and development and training opportunities.  Making Music also lobbies on behalf of its members to national and local government and other agencies.

Rothay Manor Music Holidays

Rothay Manor in the Lake District has been running music courses for over 15 years.  Geoff Keating (our conductor) is one of their regular guest lecturers.  The holidays are designed for people with an interest in classical music, the emphasis being on a pleasant and relaxing holiday in the company of fellow enthusiasts, rather than formal teaching.  Groups are limited to 25, and are well suited to anyone on their own.

Band Supplies

Band Supplies, of 13-15 Old Dumbarton Road, Glasgow G3 8QY (tel: 0141 339 9400, e-mail: glasgow@bandsupplies.co.uk) supplied us with our new Adams copper timpani.  Ronnie was most helpful ironing out some glitches in their supply and delivery.

D&G Arts Festival

The Dumfries & Galloway 10-day Arts Festival takes place annually at the end of May.  It offers a wide range of events: music, including classical, jazz and folk, dance, theatre, literary, children’s plus the visual arts and films.  Events take place in a range of venues throughout the region, from large to small, formal to informal, urban to rural.

Dumfries and Galloway Council

We receive a generous grant from Dumfries and Galloway Council every year in order to help us to cover transport costs for our widely dispersed membership.

DG One Concert Hall

DG One is the new leisure facility for Dumfries & Galloway, incorporating a large concert hall, three swimming pools, sports hall, fitness centre, gymnasium, etc.  It is the venue for our forthcoming concerts.

Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve

The Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve was the inspiration for the start of the Solway Sinfonia - see our history page.  The number of Barnacle Geese that fly from Norway to the banks of the Solway Firth each year are a sign of the quality of the wetlands at Caerlaverlock.
